What to look for when buying a horse
Post by katienoel216 »
Hello! It's me again. I just love writing articles!
Today I will show how to find a horse or stud you WON'T regret. These tips have helped me find great broodmares, studs, or even champions. I hope they will help you too!
1: Look at the horse's coloring and photographs.
Have you ever bought a horse you regret because of it's coloring? Sometimes people have trouble selling these horses. Remember this: THINK BEFORE YOU BUY. If the horse's coloring doesn't help you or puts you at a disadvantage when breeding, think again if you are buying a broodmare or stud.
2: Look at the horse's price.
Let's put this in a real situation:
There are two sale ads for bay blanket appaloosa belgian mares. One of them is 17.6 hands high, has 46,117 HGP, and 1 yellow intelligence. Let's call her mare A. She is being sold for $100. The other mare is 19.1 hands high, has 36,499 HGP and no yellows, greens or reds. Mare B is for sale for $10,000. Which mare would you buy? Most people would probably say mare A because of her price and intelligence. Consider this when shopping for your new horse.
3: look at the horse's pedigree.
Some horse's pedigree include champions, colorful studs, and famous broodmares. But some horse's pedigree include reds, bad HGP, and weird or boring colors. Make sure to check the horse's pedigree at the bottom of the page.
Did these help at all? Let me know in the comments.
