Creating Competition Help

Post by BlackOak2 »

For those of you unsure how to earn money on competitions, here's a short breakdown of what happens and how.

You can either Sponsor a competition or you can Host a competition. The definition I use to separate these two is for a sponsor, you donate money (or loose money) and for a host you either break even or earn money.

Competitions already offer a starting purse for each level of a player-made competition. Which means the game offers a sponsorship based on levels for each competition you make. The levels are broken down as:
Level 1 receives $236 game sponsorship
Level 2 receives $277 game sponsorship
Level 3 receives $321 game sponsorship
Level 4 receives $369 game sponsorship
Level 5 receives $423 game sponsorship
Level 6 receives $479 game sponsorship
Level 7 receives $541 game sponsorship
Level 8 receives $608 game sponsorship
Level 9 receives $677 game sponsorship
Level 10 receives $751 game sponsorship
For those of you who have virtually no money at all, this can aid you in earning some funds without putting forth any of your own. In these cases, I suggest that the entry fee is not increased beyond the 20 automatic fee that it already has. It will not only encourage people to enter, but encourage those who also don't have much money to participate and also may attract those looking for points rather than earnings for their horses (points for a competition can increase in a number of ways including how many other competitors are actually competing).

For those of you who have some extra funds to sweeten the pot and encourage entries, the following breakdown offers entry fee versus added purse that will allow a competition to run while breaking even with the minimum of five entries.
What does this mean? It means if you follow what I offer below and your competition runs with just five horses, you will neither gain money or loose money. But with any horse that enters beyond that minimum five entries, you will then begin to earn from your competition.

The math technique you want to use to do this is make the added purse 2.5x the entry fee. To make it really easy, I'm adding a bunch of entry fees versus added purses below.

Note: Levels are generally the determining factor for how large a purse that's offered. But there are no rules that you can't make a million dollar purse a level 1 competition.
Entry Fee ---- Added Purse
40----100
80----200
120----300

160----400
200----500
240----600

280----700
320----800
360----900

400----1000
440----1100
480----1200

520----1300
560----1400
600----1500

640----1600
680----1700
720----1800

760----1900
800----2000
1200----3000

1600----4000
2000----5000
2400----6000

2800----7000
3200----8000
3600----9000

4000----10,000
4800----12,000
5600----14,000

6400----16,000
7200----18,000
8000----20,000

10,000----25,000
12,000----30,000
14,000----35,000

16,000----40,000
18,000----45,000
20,000----50,000

40,000----100,000
60,000----150,000
80,000----200,000
Although I don't have it worked out anymore, on the minimum five entries this offers a higher purse to first place and second place than what they entered and a just about break even for third (I think) and about half entry fee returned for fourth.

Which I always considered about fair. It is the bread and butter of showing.
For those who can offer sponsorship versus hosting, that's where the money can be earned for competitors versus hosts.

A Little Information About The Running Of Competitions

Competition Records only start appearing on the horse's profile page after the competition runs.

Competitions run when the time and date of the running comes up and also when there is a minimum of 5 entries.

Open Competitions are also supposed to run 'immediately' when 20 entries fill the competition.

Open Competitions may 'lock' when there are 30 entries, however, this could also be from the competition running.

Open Competition, 20-entry immediate run, does not apply to Set Date Competitions.

Set Date Competitions will only run on the day and time they're set to run.

Set Date Competitions will remain open for entries no matter the amount (I've seen quite a few and haven't yet seen or heard them closing).

Set Date Competitions can only be created by upgraded members.

Edit #2 = added information about when a competition runs.

No levels necessary, go to Player, Skills, Competition Management. As you learn the Show Coordination and then Event Coordination, you will boost the highest level show you can create.

It does sound like you are missing one skill training.

At the end of competition management, you will be able to host 11 total shows (at one time) from level 1 to level 10.

Is there something you're not seeing under your player skills? If there is, try clearing your cache, first.

By 'open competition' are you referring to the ones that are not reoccurring? Because you can enter over 70-80 horses in those if you're quick.

Yes, I am. :)
There is between a 5 and 10 minute time delay, or appears to be, for each batch of competitions to run. So if you can catch an 'open' competition just after the last batch of competitions run, you could have as much as 9 minutes (give or take the second-ticker) to enter as many horses as qualify.

Sometimes the batch seems to run quicker, sometimes it seems like more than 15 minutes since 'the last batch'. I'm not exactly sure the behind-the-scenes, but it does appear that there is a minimum of 5 minutes between batches.
