Please help with colors!

Post by texí »

Hey,
I just love these horsies and I usualy know the color genetics, but these ones are really weird, pearl is definitely in their genetic pool.

1) Let's start with the worst one, grey is not a possibility, nearly everything else is.

2) Sire is palomino, dam is possibly double pearl, but I don't know..
ฬᾰ♛ Urathea

3) Sire is bay, possible pearl carrier, dam is a grulla spotted blanket, possible pearl carrier
ฬᾰ♛ Khalusa bint Sarim

4) Dam is black, possible pearl carrier, sire might be black hz pearl
ฬᾰ♛ Kisa bint Urth

5) Dam is palomino, sire might be black hz pearl
ฬᾰ♛ Colette

6) Dam is grulla pearl carrier, sire might be sable champagne pearl spotted blanket
ฬᾰ♛ Ulva bint Ulret

7) Dam might be a hz pearl bay, sire is a smoky seal bay
ฬᾰ♛ Unaperla bint Khronos

8) Dam is amber champagne
ฬᾰ♛ Cleosa bint Urth

9) Sire is amber champagne, might be pearl carrier, dam is grulla spotted blanket, possible pearl carrier
ฬᾰ♛ Kahi ibr Comicas

10) ฬᾰ♛ Ultun ibr Porcellain

11) Dam is Colette
ฬᾰ♛ Colip ibr Talun

12) ฬᾰ♛ Sethi ibr Dultar

Very first thing - patience is a virtue. You posted a ton of horses, and not all of them are easy to figure out. This forum is not super fast - you do not need to bump for people to see it.

Now then...
Firstly, this foal's sire is actually Silver Amber Cream Dun, not palomino pearl. He is a bay base with champagne, dun, silver, and one copy of the cream gene. The dam is correctly labeled. Knowing the sire's correct color is important to determine this colt's color. The sire can not carry pearl because he has cream and would not be able to hide it. The dam, however, does have a hidden pearl from her sire. Looking at this foal my first thought is that she is black based. She also clearly has champagne. My best guess is that she is Classic Cream Pearl - black base with champagne, and cream + pearl. She is too dark to be a Classic Pearl, check out this horse for comparison.

This horse is Sooty Amber Cream - bay base plus champagne and a single cream. If you compare his baby picture to the baby picture of the sire linked above you can see that they would be the same color if this stallion had silver and dun.
These mares are Grulla Pearl - black plus dun and two pearls.
This horse is correctly labelled as a Palomino Pearl.
This horse is Classic Grulla - black plus dun and champagne.
Her dam is a Bay Pearl Dun - bay plus dun and two copies of pearl. This mare is Smoky Black Pearl - black plus pearl-cream.
These horses are Amber Champagne Dun.
This horse is Brown Pearl - brown plus two copies of pearl.
This horse is Apricot - chestnut plus two copies of pearl.
This horse is Sable Dun - brown plus champagne and dun.
This horse is Apricot Dun - chestnut plus dun and two creams.
This horse is a correctly labeled Amber Dun.
This horse is Silver Amber Cream - bay plus champagne, silver, and one cream.
These horses are Amber Dun - bay plus champagne and dun.

This horse is Gold Cream - chestnut plus champagne and one cream.
