ℬℳ Leopard Project

Post by Totina »

So I thought I would share the details of my leopard project, where it started and the ongoing process to breed horses with true leopard pattern.

Most of my stallions are up for stud and can be found on this link:
http://www.horseworldonline.net/forum/v ... =21&t=7435

Horses for sale can be found here:
http://www.horseworldonline.net/forum/v ... =15&t=7433

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The project started with one mare that had a spotted blanket:

ℬℳ Ocean Gem

I bred her to a stallion with more white and larger spots:

These two produced three foals in total with various amount of white, one filly and two colts. Only one filly and one colt had more white than their mother. Trying to breed them to each other created a colt with more white than both but I did not continue on this line.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Instead I just kept the filly to continue my project:

ℬℳ Spotted Jewel

She was then bred to another stallion with a lot of white:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Only one filly was produced and she was then kept for the project:

ℬℳ Leopard Jewel

I bred her to three different stallions with various amount of white, with focus on the head. The more white on the head the better and these stallions were selected:

Two filles and one colt were produced:

ℬℳ Clouded Crystal

ℬℳ Total Snow

Sunny Law (unfortunately renamed without prefix)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When the fillies were old enough to breed they were both bred once to Total Snow and they both produced fillies:

ℬℳ Cloudy Sky (unfortunately with a changed prefix of new owner)

ℬℳ Frozen Jewel

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cloudy Sky was bred once to the stallion:

And they produced a filly with the desired white head:

ℬℳ Cloudy Dots

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Frozen Jewel on the other hand, since she already had the white head I was looking for, was bred three times to different stallions:

(Same as Cloudy Sky.)

(To add white pattern to the upper part of the right front leg.)
ℬℳ Front Ice
(The colt produced with the stallion linked above.)

She only produced colts, including Front Ice that is linked above.

ℬℳ Tiger Frost

ℬℳ Great Glacier

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cloudy Dots was the only mare left at this point and she was bred four times in total with the colts from Frozen Jewel.

She gave birth to two colts and two fillies:

ℬℳ Getting Closer
(One of my main stallions in the project so far and a popular stud.)

ℬℳ Snowflake

ℬℳ Diluted Glacier
(Used for keeping the white on the right front leg.)

ℬℳ Dreamy Haze

These four horses became the foundation of my leopard project, showing a lot of white areas with various amount of spots. I am going to continue with this project, trying to add white to the areas that still need it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The path forward in the project:

Add more white to these specific areas:
*Jowl/chin area
*Front side of the neck
*Front side of the left hind leg, near the stifle
*More white on the legs overall

If you have any horses that have more white in the areas mentioned above I would be willing to pay a good amount of money for buying or breeding with (if it's a stallion) such a horse.

Each mare that I use in my project breed from now on will be given her own post with link to offsprings and information of which stallions used and what I am aiming for at the moment.

The first foundation mare:

ℬℳ Snowflake

She was bred two times in total. The stallions were Front Ice and Getting Closer, both stallions from my own project (both part of the four foundation horses).

With Front Ice she produced a filly with less white on the neck but with white on the upper part of the right front leg:

ℬℳ Totally Genuine

With Getting Closer she also produced a filly:

ℬℳ Snowy Valley (unfortunately renamed without prefix)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The second foundation mare:

ℬℳ Dreamy Haze

She was bred four times with stallions from my project and produced three fillies and one colt:

ℬℳ Etna Snow

ℬℳ Spot On Snow

ℬℳ Dreams Of Snow

ℬℳ Emerald Light
