Genetic Factors
Post by Valkyriea »
I was reading an article here http://www.ozhorseracing.com/resourcecentre_sexbias.htm that there's a possibility that performance may be sex linked(was reading a topic that Argent had created and thought I'd add my input here as I cannot write in the member forum.
Could there be a possibility that some horses may be gender biased? Like throw more colts than fillies, or fillies than colts.
Some article reads I found on the matter:

Re: Genetic Factors
There are certainly factors that are sex linked. Like the Large Heart gene for example. So it only makes sense that there could be more genes which are sex linked. This is fairly simple to program so it's definitely going to be a feature of the game.
Thanks for sharing those links too. If you find anymore articles let me know

Re: Genetic Factors
Gender bias does not exist; the sire decides the sex of the foal, and the chance is 50/50 for either sex. There is some speculation that time of insemination (using AI) and the weight and uterine condition of the mare might have some effect on the outcome of the sex, but statistically speaking, if allowed to produce enough foals, all horses will reach 50/50.
I would like to see semen sexing added in, as there is some evidence that shows some lines produce better colts or better fillies.

Ah makes sense Argent and Semen sexing would be a neat feature to add in as well.
Larissar I couldn't find any other sex-linked genes or such except things about disease and such, if you're looking for that kind of stuff I can send you that. Also did you get the information I sent you on white mutation and the jumble of genetic information?

Re: Genetic Factors
Yup I got your information on white mutations. Thanks!
I recently saw an interesting article. 4 foals were born that were successfully select for gender. This could be an interesting addition to the game way down the road.
