Larissa's Percheron Breeding Program

Post by larissa_test »

My current goal is to create a farm of Percheron's. Preferably all black and suited to Log Pull events and also Driving events.

To start with I need to create a Norman Cob ((Tarpan x Belgian) x (Forest Horse x Belgian)).
I've got a nice Belgian stallion I'm crossing to a Tarpan and a Forest Horse. If all goes well I'll get a filly from one and a colt from another.

Anyone else working on Norman Cobs or Percherons?

Finally got my two potential Norman Cob parents. Both evaluate close enough so I'm hopeful. First foal from them was way way too short to qualify though.

Hazzah! I got my Percheron!! A beautiful black colt too and just when I was beginning to think all my horses were homozygous for Bay!

I'm sure that he's going to end up heavier and more "pony type" than I'd like so the next stage of my breeding program is to create a leggier/lighter version but still very tall and build. This is the type I'm aiming for: http://www.yoderfarmsduke.com/_/rsrc/13 ... 8-583p.jpg
