I've made a quick change to competitions. Now once an even reaches 20 entries it will run regardless of when the run date is set at.
This is a trial for now, and yes I'm aware it can be abused. I'll put in some additional rules shortly and update the show page layouts to better explain when they will run.
The idea is to get shows running much faster than they currently are, and see how things go.
