Wild bay?
Post by DragonFly »
Hello!
I wanted to ask how the agouti dominance works here. So far I thought that the dominance goes like this:
A, A+, At, a.
bay > wild bay > brown
I consider my mare http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/2774 to be wild bay.
The stallion I bred her to was black (suspected homozygous).
Both parents are foundation arabians.
This http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/7817 is their foal, who at age 1 looks like a pretty typical bay.
Am I missing something? Is the mare just a non-typical bay? Do I need to wait a bit more for the foal to mature? Why is he bay when he should be wild bay/brown/black ?
Thank you!

Wild bay is dominant over ordinary bay and bay is dominant over brown.

Ive read many times that bay is the most dominant but I dont know how accurate were those websites. My googling didnt bring me much more than lots of forum posts where half say that A+ > A and the other half says exact opposite.
But with the amount of black being from minimum "A+" to maximum "a" it would make sense.
Thank you again, I guess I have my answer
