Color Study: "Plume" (Two-Toned) Mane/Tail & Fetlocks, 2.0

Post by Gaagii »

So to comply over a year's worth of work (14 months give or take) I am revising the "Plume" summary. viewtopic.php?f=17&t=17777

What is plume?
Well in real life there are two types. There's gulastra’s plume which many believe to be a mismarking of sabino genes in real life. And then there's the plume coloration found in horses such as Przewalski's & the old Fjord horse.

In the Game
This "plume" gene influences mane, tail & fetlocks including with feathers.
It has been found sporadically in the following AC breeds - Belgians, Arabians, Forests & Barbs.
It is recessive. Breed to a horse without known plume lineage and you will get a "regular" foal.
It seems to be currently available only on a bay base coat. And all variations of.
It is unassociated with sabino/paint or leopard/varnish colorings.

It may be associated with the silver gene; irl silver bay horses.
The presence of "flaxen chestnuts" adds a bit of quandary to the silver gene idea.
The fact that it doesn't seem to influence black (yet) adds a bit of quandary to the silver gene idea.
The fact that it doesn't seem to influence brown (yet) adds a bit of quandary to the silver gene idea.
However, the fact that it influences the black on bay horses means it can't be flaxen.

It may be associated with "wild bay" as such horses in real life can have plume-like mane/tails.
The presence of "flaxen chestnuts" adds a bit of quandary to the "wild bay" idea.
