Forum rules
Each breed may have only one topic. The first post in the topic is to be informative. It should help explain the breed, and breeding goals; advice on how to select mares and stallions; and links to ideal Stallions available for breeding.
Keeping a directory of breeders working on the same goal is also helpful.
All new threads must be approved.

Comtois
Post by Kintara »
The Comtois is described as a draft horse with a large head, alert eyes and small ears. A straight neck joins the body, which is stocky and powerful with a deep girth. The back is long and straight. They have short, strong legs with little feather and muscular hindquarters. The mane and tail are both thick.
They are usually silver bay in colour, although the occasional silver black or bay are also found and they stand approximately between 14 and 16 hands high. They have a very kind nature and an ability to learn very quickly. Today the Comtois is the most abundant breed of heavy horse in France
[Norman Cob x Ardennais] x [Percheron x Boulonnais] = COMTOIS
Mostly a simple breed to create until you get to the Boulonnais, I have see that there are a few Spanish Barbs around now so hopefully with a bit of help from them I can create some Comtois!
COMTOIS
[Norman Cob x Ardennais] x [Percheron x Boulonnais]
[ Tarpan x Belgian ] x [ Forest Horse x Belgian ] = Norman Cob
Forest Horse x Belgian = Ardennais
Norman Cob x [ Forest Horse x Belgian ] = Percheron
Spanish Barb x [ Arabian x Forest Horse ] = Boulonnais
[ Spanish Jennet x West African Barb ] x [ Andalusian x West African Barb ] = Spanish Barb
[ Arabian x Sorraia ] x North African Barb = Spanish Jennet
[ Arabian x North African Barb ] x [ North African Barb x Forest Horse ] = West African Barb
[ Sorraia x Carthusian ] x [ Sorraia x West African Barb ] = Andalusian
West African Barb x Sorraia = Carthusian
[ Tarpan x Mongolian ] x [ Tarpan x West African Barb ] = Sorraia
[ Przewalski Horse x Tarpan ] x Tarpan = Mongolian

Oh I love these guys! I am currently breeding towards Boulonnais so hopefully I can help out soon with those (I foaled my first Jennet this morning!). I am also looking to breed the Comtois in the near future. Good luck!

Oh I'd definitely like to use your Boulonnais when you get them! I have the other 3 breeds already, just trying to breed a bit of silver into them so my Comtois can be silver bay!

Having any luck on the Boulonnais, I'm not LOL! I've gone a different tack though and am putting some heavy blood into the Spanish Barbs. I'll try with this filly when she is of age, plus I have a Arabian x Forest colt with a bit of Belgian to make him heavier too

Nope! No luck here either
I am going a similar route but with my Forest Horses.
I'm experimenting with these girls:
http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/42248 - She's a horse type
http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/31892 - This one I've bred to a FH X Belgian
**EDIT: Resulted in this guy - http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/37828
Both stallions that I've used are 3-5% too bulky for Boulonnais but I'm hoping to compensated for the Arab blood down the track.
I'm also waiting for all my foals to come of age so I can get some Spanish Barbs going.
I have a feeling that you will beat me to it but hopefully we can cross our horses soon and finally get some Boulonnais!

Also, I found this girl:

I'm going to see if I can use her to eventually get a Forest Horse with those 4* evaluation that she has. Not sure if it'll work but we'll see
