Snowcap or Near Few Spot?
Post by Shadow Scar »
I don't have a ton of experience with high expression Lp genes so, I'm not sure at what point a horse isn't considered a snowcap.

The word 'snowcap' is usually reserved for horses that have double Lp hip blankets, as in 'a snowcapped mountain top'.Shadow Scar wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 6:03 am I don't have a ton of experience with high expression Lp genes so, I'm not sure at what point a horse isn't considered a snowcap.

I'd say your horse is a near few spot, but often enough I think I'd refrain from naming my horses 'near' until after they travel that coverage up the neck. But just because it can be hard to find and get those genes 'extension up the neck' into a herd.
After that, it's 'false fewspot' which generally means a horse that has Pttn B and not Pttn A (the smaller blanket leopard versus the larger, fuller-coverage leopard). Or false leopard, depending on if there's just one Lp.
So, it's down to your preference and what you'd prefer to help document where your breeding is. I think at one point, I even mixed and matched, depending on the day and if I hated the spots and was seeing them everywhere or I liked the spots and found the foals pretty to look at.
