Thank you Lekara! A huge thank you to you as well. Those Andalusian mares you provided me with really helped this project along!!!Lekara wrote:Thanks for joining in, Revenant.
And a HUGE thank you to CarouselCowgirl for getting this project rolling.
Also note - black foals aren't good for trying to find dapples on, either.
So really the optimal colors are chestnuts, bays, buckskins, palominos, perlinos and cremellos. They just seem to be the easiest to "spot" (pun intended).
And yes! I forgot about black. Well, even the "brown" based horses are not good for seeing sooty dapples on. Basically it is limited to the colors Lekara mentioned! I have gotten them to show up on pearls and duns, but it seems to be more difficult.

New blog post. This is sort of a question for Revenant, and also sort of a possible sale announcement.

Here's my successful, first full Andalusian (well, 97%, but he's not listed as part!) with dapples. I used CarouselCowgirl's stock of Turkmene x FH horses and bred them to my Andalusian lines for many generations. Took longer than I expected, honestly, but here is the first Firemist Meadows born dappled Andalusian!

I'm particularly interested in this mare (http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/419959), but I think I also have space atm for two of the others (http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/419086 + http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/416423). Is it still possible for me to purchase these horses?

Also that's interesting to know about the colors. It makes good sense. I know in Exmoors, I'd like to produce homozygous pangare bay, bay dun, brown, and brown dun, specifically dappled sooty and not metallic.
I'll add the dapples to my Andalusians though, since there's no reason not to. I realize I'll have to breed a separate line though because my current Andies are champagne and/or dun ha.
Out of curiosity, has anyone seen how well dapples show up on pearl and whether pangare or metallic cause any changes? But, yes. I'll move into chestnut and bay and their cream variants.

Pangare doesn't seem to make it more difficult to see sooty or sooty dapples. This mare, for example, is a palomino with pangare and sooty dapples! Probably my favorite horse color-wise.Revenant wrote:Also that's interesting to know about the colors. It makes good sense. Pearl has popped up in my Andys. I *think* it can make sooty harder to see, but it is not impossible. Here are 2 beautiful examples. Mare 1 and Mare 2
Metallic I have never paid attention to, though I know I had lots of metallic Turkmenes back when I was breeding for sooty dapple Turkmenes and Forest Horses. I don't think it had any affect on sooty dapples, but I wasn't looking for it!

Thanks for the answer and the reference horses. They're absolutely gorgeous! Definitely going to have to play around with cream or cream + pearl dilutes. -heart eyes-CarouselCowgirl wrote:
