Help with breeding for thicker legs?
Post by Neon4 »
Breeding for thicker legs!!
I breed little ponies and one thing i would like to breed for is thicker, sturdier legs.
My problem then, is that I am not premium so i have no way of telling for sure which ponies have the thickest legs. Some help with this from a premium (or not premium if you have found a system that works) player would be so much appreciated!
It would simply require you to look at the conformation of some ponies and tell me how thick their legs are. I know this sounds really weird when I say it like this, but is there any other way? xD
Thank you for reading this!
(As another thing, I would also like to breed for shorter (if you know what i mean) rib cages in future)

For fun, mostly:

http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/512397
N4 Frosted, all dressed up for spring! BTW, she has moderately thin legs.
Here are examples of horses (Pony-type) with really thick legs:
Croissant II, SMG Log Pull http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/291157
∰ Ironclad de Whyle, SMG Log Pull http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/955960
Neither of these stallions is available for public breeding
Of the 10 top-ranked Log Pull stallions, only 4 are posted for public breeding. They are all very tall (18.3, 18.3, 20.0, and 20.1 hands) so I can't quite see recommending them.
Most Shetlands, by comparison, have moderately thin legs. The "thick leg" trait seems to be most obvious in Belgians.
I looked at a lot of posted-for-breeding Belgians and Shetland Ponies; the Belgians are all tall and the Shetlands all have thinnish legs. I did find one Grade stallion who is a heavy-Pony type, 12.3 h, legs mildly thin, fee $600.
StarLite's Red Sky

As for a shorter rib cage ("Back Length"), that's very common in AC Shetlands -- and often seen in Pony-type Heavy or Very Heavy horses of any breed.
Intergalactic Charger's Back Length indicator is at the maximum for shortness:
http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/166081
But N4 Frosted's back length is quite close to that, too.
Conformation traits and effects are explained more extensively on the "Conformation Report" screen (which is a major reason I keep paying Premium fees). Thick legs are one aspect of Strength (but some thinnish-legged horses have reasonable amounts of Strength anyway, because other traits compensate. A shorter Back Length contributes to Strength and Agility.
That's Conformation for you, complicated and interdependent. Strength and Movement are the hardest of the 8 Breeder's Report traits to improve (even Greens in these aren't common and Golds are rare).
Well, I hope some or all of this helps!
Best wishes,
Xant’hippe
